To step into a maker's studio is a special thing.
A place of ideas, years of practice, and skills refined slowly over time. While our craft happens on cutting tables and sewing machines in Melbourne, Nuñez's happens on canvas.
Born in Chile, Nuñez arrived in Australia in early 2018, a lifelong dream that eventually led her to Bangalow in Northern New South Wales. It is here that she now spends her days painting - creating tranquil works inspired by nature, memory and the quiet moments that often pass unnoticed.
When we first came across her artwork, we were immediately drawn to its calmness. The colours and pace felt familiar, with nothing rushed, nothing loud. Just thoughtful work that was clearly made with care.
It reminded us of why we do what we do.
At Australian Stitch, we often talk about makers in the industry. The people behind the sewing machines, cutting tables, knitting machines and dye vats that bring our garments to life. But making takes many forms, and we have always felt a connection to those who dedicate themselves to a craft, whatever that craft may be...
So we reached out.
Rather than directing a shoot or creating a brief, we simply sent Nuñez a few pieces from our Chocolate Collection and invited her to spend time in them however she pleased.
What came back was a glimpse into her world.
For Nunez, days are spent moving gently between her canvases, mixing oil colours and following trails of ideas as they unfold. Time slows down in the studio. Hours pass quietly.
It's often in these moments that the clothes we reach for matter most. Pieces that don't distract, restrict or demand attention, but instead move with us through the rhythm of the day.
The Chocolate Bell Sleeve Dress and Foldover Flared Pants were designed for these kinds of days. Soft against the skin and easy to wear, they're made to move with you through slow mornings, studio hours and the small rituals that fill the spaces in between.
Perhaps that's why they felt so at home amongst the paint brushes, timber walls and half-finished canvases of Nuñez's Studio. Both the garments and the artwork share something in common - they were made slowly, thoughtfully, and with care in Australia.
